Sensory Friendly Films
In certain parts of the US they have developed a program called “Sensory Friendly Films,” however, this is not available in Greenville. So, I would like to give some suggestions for ways to create your own sensory-friendly family movie time in the comfort of your own home! Leave the lights on and turn the volume down low so your kiddos can clap, sing, dance along with the film! This will give them an opportunity to interact along with the film. Don’t forget to grab a variety of crunchy snacks for your kids to munch on while watching for deep pressure input which is very calming and helps with attention. Another idea is to provide your child with a weighted blanket if the film does not allow for as much interaction. This will help provide calming input to help your child attend for longer periods of time.
Here’s a list of some sensory-friendly films that will sure to be a hit with your kids:
- How to Train Your Dragon
- Lion King
- Finding Nemo
- Wreck-It Ralph
A lot of these fun films are also on Netflix so be sure to check out the “Just for Kids” category, so you don’t even have to leave the house!
