What is a Certified Autism Specialist?
Laurel is one of our amazing speech language therapists who has voluntarily worked towards becoming a Certified Autism Specialist in order to further develop her skill set in helping treat individuals with autism. A Certified Autism Specialist (CAS) is credentialed through the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). In order to earn the CAS credential, Laurel has completed rigorous professional standards set forth by the IBCCES. These standards include a minimum of a master’s degree, at least two years experience working with individual’s with autism, 14 continuing education hours that directly relate to autism, and a passing grade on the IBCCES autism competency exam.
Receiving this type of certification demonstrates to our clients and colleagues a commitment to promoting a higher standard of care to the autism community. Laurel has gained extensive knowledge and understanding in the area of autism and is able to use and apply that knowledge to help create and improve support plans and therapy for those with autism spectrum disorder.
We are so proud of Laurel and are inspired by her drive and passion to continue to improve her understanding of autism through this certification!
